Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing (WPC)

The Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing (WPC) of Department of Telecommunications (DoT), India is the National Radio Regulatory Authority responsible for frequency spectrum management, including licensing and caters the needs of all wireless users.

As per WPC guidelines, all wireless products working in delicensed frequency bands require Equipment Type Approval (ETA) from WPC. ETA is issued on per model basis. Application can be filed by Indian manufacturers or Authorized Indian Representative in case of foreign manufacturer.

For ETA, there is no requirement of in-country testing and RF reports from ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories are accepted.

ETA for the equipment which operate in delicensed frequency bands and are exempted from import license requirements in India can be obtained under ETA (Self-Declaration) scheme which is a completely online paperless process. To apply and get more information on ETA please visit the Saral Sanchar portal of Department of Telecommunications.

For other equipment which are not exempted from import licensing requirements, ETA can be obtained as per routine procedure i.e. by applying at the Regional Licensing offices of WPC.
