UL Keen on Making India a MedTech Industry Leader

With improvements in medical devices, advanced materials, and embedded systems, medical technology is now deeply relevant to diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical laboratory equipment. FICCI’s Global Medical Electronics & Devices Conference was an initiative to envisage the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ vision through technology partnerships with world leaders in med-tech products.
The theme of the two-day global conference was “Medical Technology – Key Enabler to Swastha Bharat”. The conference brought together stakeholders and policy makers in the medical industry to deliberate on the opportunities that manufacturers can explore from the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The conference focused on the med-tech industry’s key issues, which entail affordable medical technology for rural and urban India, and manufacturing of medical devices within the country.
Mr. Peeyush Gupta, Director – Sales and Marketing was one of the speakers in the conference. He highlighted UL ‘s expertise in certifying and advising manufacturing community to develop safe & quality products matching global standards & regulations. Mr. Gupta shared his perspective on evolving dynamics of Indian standards and specifications.
UL has made significant investments in terms of resources and laboratories to support the industry. Also, its expertise in helping industries meet standards and certifications across different geographies is a reason why Indian manufacturers can trust UL in its global foray into medical device industry.
The conference deliberated and debated on the key issues facing the industry. They included the importance of patient and user safety in medical technology, the role of third-party testing and notified bodies towards the growth of the med-tech industry, general requirements for basic safety and essential performance of medical electrical equipment, and the way forward to building a best-in-class med-tech industry in India.
