RR Imperial becomes the first wire and cable manufacturer to get UL Mark in Bangladesh
Certification will aid RR Imperial’s customers to demonstrate compliance with stringent regulatory requirements for fire and electrical hazards
Dhaka, Feb. 23, 2018 — UL, an independent, global safety science company today announced that it has awarded Narayanganj based RR Imperial Electricals Limited with the much sought after UL Mark for the appliance wiring material (AWM) category.
The certification was formally presented to Mr. Mahboob Hossain Mirdah, Director & CEO, RR Imperial by Mr. Sarbajeet Mukherjee, Managing Director of UL VS Bangladesh Limited.
A joint venture between Imperial Group, a leading chemicals and colorants business in Bangladesh and Ram Ratna Group, a premier wire and cable producer in India, RR Imperials has emerged as a significant player in the growing electrical industry in Bangladesh.
RR Imperial’s products, under the banner RR Kabel, passed a rigorous suite of tests spanning electrical, mechanical and flammability parameters to qualify for the UL Mark. The certification will particularly benefit RR Imperial’s customers in the country’s Electrical Appliance industry, as they will be better positioned to demonstrate compliance with the stringent regulatory requirements for fire and electrical hazards in manufacturing units mandated by global standards.
While IEC, BASEC and BS standards are currently in vogue in the country, the UL certification for wire and cables is more demanding than prevailing global norms, thereby providing superior advantage to the manufacturer. Unlike other certification schemes, products that carry the UL Mark for wire and cables are also subject to post market surveillance and surprise inspections, to ensure that manufacturers are showing continued compliance.
Mr. Mahboob Hossain Mirdah of RR Imperial said, “As a quality conscious company, we are deeply honored to be awarded with the UL Mark and will invest our best efforts toward quality and safety to ensure we continue to bear the coveted certification. The domestic electrical market is unfortunately rife with substandard items and products with counterfeit certificates. The UL Mark is the most significant differentiator that will help us establish our leadership in the industry, and hopefully, inspire other manufacturers to follow suit as well”.
Commenting on the conferring of the UL Mark to RR Imperial, Mr. Sarbajeet Mukherjee, Managing Director, UL VS Bangladesh Limited said, “As one of our earliest customers, we have worked closely with Ram Ratna Group in India for over a decade now to enable them to access global markets through our testing, inspection and certification services. We are delighted to extend the same support to their joint venture RR Imperial here in Bangladesh. In becoming the first and only electrical manufacturer to gain the UL Mark, RR Imperial has proven to have complied with the highest standards for wire and cables, which will certainly enable them to increase their market share and establish greater customer trust in the brand”.
