India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is organizing Standards Conclave 2015 with focus on the evolving standards in international trade.

The changing dynamics of conformity assessment has a growing impact on participants in global trade. A strong regulatory framework for standards will help domestic industries increase exports in both, quantitative and value terms. In addition, it will create a system in which adoption of appropriate standards entails a sense of pride. Demonstrating compliance should also lead to inbuilt incentives as well as simplification of procedures.

It is essential that India develops a coordinated national response and strategy to obey the World Trade Organization rules on standards and conformity assessment. Thereby, India will be able to leverage influence as one of world’s biggest markets in the international market.

UL in India is a conclave partner for this seminar, where UL’s experts will share their perspective on the role of standards in the impending scenario. Gaps in the regulation system need to be assessed and UL, with years of expertise in standards and certifications, can help specify the need for better regulation.
